Let us say, you are granted a wish. Anything that you want right now, will be given to you. It doesn’t matter if it is something you consider impossible, it doesn’t matter if you think it is wrong and sinful. You are allowed what you want without any responsibility or accountability. It will be like in a dream, once you have experienced it, you will wake up without any consequences.
What would you ask for?
Take some time to think about this.
That which is sinful
Almost all of us have developed ideas about what is right and what is wrong. Based on these ideas, we decide that certain things are just not to be desired. If we have even a small feeling of desire for these things, we suppress it, we deny it. The desire may grow strong but we will keep denying it to ourselves.
The problem is, what we deny, what we do not accept, controls us.
This repression finds release in other areas of our lives. We find ourselves getting suddenly angry at certain things. Certain situations and people(who may remind us of what we are denying) automatically trigger resentment, anger and negativity. We get surprised by these sudden bad feelings, we feel guilty and inadequate because of our lack of control. We will keep groping for answers unless, we accept our true desires.
Even if you are to not follow their fulfillment, don’t deny that you have them. For once, let go of judgement and just accept what you desire. It will help you understand yourself better. Only when you accept something, can you change it. And, you never know, when you accept it, you may realize it is not so bad after all!
Lasting happiness and peace are possible only when you accept what you want.
That which is impossible
Our idea of what is possible is not a fixed thing. We start with a clean state, we start with believing that everything we want is possible. As we grow, through experience and through social conditioning, we start marking certain things as impossible.
But the opposite can also happen. Certain things that appeared impossible once, may start looking possible, if you display courage.
Here is another question to make this clearer :
If you are given a billion dollars to pass the rest of your life comfortably, what would you want to do with the rest of your life?
You may buy the best house, sit on a beach and sip coconut water. But you know you don’t want to do just that for ever, you will get bored to death! So what would you want to do with the rest of your life? What would be a worthy and meaningful thing to do?
This question helps you understand what you truly love doing. A lot of our career and life choices are made under the shadow of fear, uncertainty and the urge to create safety in life. This, many times, makes us suppress the desire for what we are passionate about.
Accept what you really like doing. You don’t have to start doing it right away. No one is blaming you or challenging you. Even if you don’t think you can do it now, don’t deny that you like it. If you accept it, if you give this passion a corner of your mind to stay in, someday, you may find a way to follow it. Just the acceptance may put the wheels in motion. You may see opportunities and paths you may have missed until now, because you were too busy denying what you want.
